According to KCCA ministerial policy statement (2014-13) Kampala has a total of 2,092 public and private education institutions. These include 803 Pre-primary, 964 primary schools, 295 secondary schools and 25 tertiary institutions.

Lubaga division has the most education institutions with 26.2% of all schools in Kampala. Lubaga division is followed by Makindye (25.3%), Kawempe (23.8%) and Nakawa (17.4%). The central division has the least number of schools with only 7.2% of the entire schools in the city.
